Daily acts of joy increase happiness, according to preliminary data from The Big Joy Project, a social impact campaign created by researchers at the Greater Good Science Center at the University of California. The project asked participants to commit to a daily “micro-act” of joy for seven days and provided feedback on their experience.

By the end of the week, participants self-reported a roughly 25% improvement in emotional wellbeing. The project has received over 85,200 participants from 207 countries, including about 3,700 from Canada. The results suggest that daily acts of joy can have a positive impact on emotional wellbeing, with little consensus on the amount of practice required to see a benefit.
