Fans of the Northeastern girls’ basketball program have been eagerly awaiting the day when they could witness a new generation of talented players take the court. And on Friday night, they got exactly that as the Bobcats took on York Suburban in a highly anticipated battle of unbeatens.
Lauralye Kennedy, a junior standout for Northeastern, led the charge against the Trojans, draining four 3-pointers and scoring a team-best 16 points. But Kennedy wasn’t the only star of the night, as the Bobcats relied on an eight-player core to take down their opponents.
In a game that came down to the wire, Kennedy and her teammates proved that they are more than just a one-player show. With star point guard Mikayla Coleman sidelined due to illness, the Bobcats barely missed a beat, thanks in large part to the heroics of Leah Himes, a freshman who came off the bench to score five crucial points.
